Amharic OCR: turn an image into editable Amharic text
Amharic OCR reads Fidel characters in a photo or screenshot and gives you text you can copy, edit and search. It helps with printed letters, book pages, notices and forms that would otherwise have to be retyped by hand.
Accuracy depends mostly on the picture. Use a flat, well-lit photo, keep the text straight and avoid shadows. Printed text works far better than handwriting or decorative fonts. Always proofread the result, especially names and numbers. You can choose Amharic, English or both languages for mixed documents.

How accurate is the OCR?
It works well on clear printed documents. Handwriting, faded or very small text will have many errors. Always check the result.
Is my image sent anywhere?
No. OCR runs in your browser. Only the OCR engine and language data are downloaded.
Why is it slow?
OCR needs a lot of computation; on a phone one page can take several seconds or more.
Does Amharic OCR work on handwriting?
It is built for printed text. Handwriting and stylised fonts are recognised poorly, so expect to correct many characters.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The recognition runs in your browser, so your images stay on your device.
